Members of Militant Youth Group, League of Filipino Students (LFS) joined a lightning rally last September 11 in front of the United States Embassy in Manila as a protest of the continuous US intervention in the Philippines and the commemoration of the 32nd anniversary in founding the LFS.
Obviously members of Militant Youth Group are anti-Visiting Forces of Agreement (VFA), this is the agreement between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Government of the United States of America regarding the treatment of US Armed Forces visiting the Philippines.
"The continued implementation of the VFA and other unequal treaties with the US has taken away the victories of decade's worthy of Filipino struggle against US intervention such as the dismantling of US Bases in 1991", Terry Ridon, Secretary General said.
VFA can become a major political issue in the country which will lead the Government to proudly say that they've been helping us in so many ways. but for the Militant Youth Group, according to Ridon, it only undermines the supposed sovereignty and independence of the country, even more if that presence is permanent.
When ask what the people has gotten out of the VFA, after a decade since it was ratified , " the supposed aid that is being given by the US troops in Mindanao service nothing but a smokescreen to their intervention in the country", Ridon said.
Coincident with this happening is the commemoration also of the 8th Anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, familiarly known as September 11 bombing where hijackers intentionally crashed two of the airlines into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, killing everyone on board and many others working in the building. Both buildings collapsed within two hours, destroying nearby buildings and damaging others. in total of 2,993 people, including the hijackers died in the attacks. There were no survivors from any of the flights. September 11 really a history that marks as 9/11.
